Why? I've deleted the app and reinstalled 7-8 times hoping that might do it, but no luck. It's been available online for weeks, but not here. Latest: It's Feb 25 and the Feb Ensign audio is still not available on the app. March1: March Ensign audio is available but still no sign of February. Surely, search isn’t meant to be this useless now? This is stepping us back over ten years, which is how long it’s been since I used the Topical Guide to find a scripture. Now search only shows results for hymns, topical guide, and bible dictionary, or it shows results for articles not downloaded yet, but it shows NO RESULTS for scriptures. I have come to rely on the power of this app to find all references to a keyword in every downloaded document on my device. Search has either been severely hampered, or it’s broken. I can’t be the only person confused by this change. I find this change in search behavior more complicated and less intuitive than before because the new contextual shortcuts appear to be search results. The release notes don’t even address this change in behavior. Changing app behavior like this is incredibly confusing. This pop up info is what has been introduced with this version. However, if you tap on return, the true search completes. When you type a search keyword, the results that pop up are as I stated: hymns, topical guide, and dictionary. ![]() I’ll leave my original review as it stands. ![]() There are few bosses in the conventional sense, where the player defeats a superior opponent by direct confrontation. Some puzzles involve using the environment to kill an enemy, like turning a valve to spray hot steam at their enemies. ![]() The game regularly integrates puzzles, such as navigating a maze of conveyor belts or using nearby boxes to build a small staircase to the next area the player must travel to. Progress through the world is continuous, except for short pauses for loading. Half-Life has no "levels" it instead divides the game into chapters, whose titles flash on the screen as the player moves through the game. In line with this, the player rarely loses the ability to control the player character, who never speaks and is never actually seen in the game the player sees "through his eyes" for the entire length of the game. Compared to most first-person shooters of the time, which relied on cut-scene intermissions to detail their plot-lines, Half-Life's story is told mostly using scripted sequences (bar one short cut-scene), keeping the player in control of the first-person viewpoint. Unlike most of its peers at the time, Half-Life used scripted sequences, such as a Investigator ramming down a door, to advance major plot points. GAMEPLAY: Half-Life is a first-person shooter that requires the player to perform combat tasks and puzzle solving to advance through the game. A sequel, Half-Life 2, was released in 2004, followed by Half-Life 2: Episode One (2006), Episode Two (2007), and Half-Life: Alyx (2020). Half-Life sparked numerous fan-made mods, several of them becoming standalone games, notably Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat and Sven Co-op. Valve ported Half-Life to its Source engine in 2004, while a third-party remake, Black Mesa, was released in 2020. It was ported to the PlayStation 2 in 2001, along with another expansion Half-Life: Decay, and to mac-OS and Linux in 2013. It was followed by the expansion packs Opposing Force (1999) and Blue Shift (2001). By 2008, the game had sold over 9 million copies. It won over fifty PC "Game of the Year" awards and is considered one of the most influential games of the first-person shooter genre, as well as one of the best video games ever made. Half-Life received acclaim for its graphics, realistic game-play, and seamless narrative. They built Half-Life using Goldsboro, a heavily modified version of the Quake engine, licensed from id Software. Valve co-founder Gable Ne-well said the team aimed to create an immersive world rather than a "shooting gallery". Unlike many other games at the time, the player has almost uninterrupted control of Freeman, and the story is told mostly through scripted sequences seen through his eyes. ![]() The core game-play consists of fighting alien and human enemies with a variety of weapons and solving puzzles. Players assume the role of Gordon Freeman, a scientist who must find his way out of the Black Mesa Research Facility after it is invaded by aliens. It was Valve's debut product and the first game in the Half-Life series. Half-Life is a first-person shooter game developed by Valve and published by Sierra Studios for Windows in 1998.
